you are already off to a great start. Asking questions and educating yourself.
First, I don’t recommend handcuffs unless they are covered with something. The first time you get carried away in those things and you come to find deep marks on your wrist that you then have to cover for days with long sleeves… it’s a pain.
As flimsy as they are, you can pick up some really cheap beginners bondage kits on amazon just to get a feel for it and see if you even like it. If so, you can invest in some good leather cuffs later one.
Now that that is out of the way, safety. Never too tight and check circulation often. The general rule is being able to get two fingers under any restraint.
Discuss beforehand the limits and roughly what the plan is. you don’t need a step by step, I know that takes the fun out of it, but go over what various activities will be touched upon.
Finally, agree on a safe word. I like the traffic light system. Red for stop, yellow for slow down, and green for go.
